BALLET

MTA teaches the ballet syllabus by the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) and offers ballet exams at a graded and vocational level.  Students are accepted into Ballet classes from the age of three years and over with the opportunity to participate in exams from aged five years and over.  As students advance they may be invited to join the vocational and pointe classes as well as continue with their graded classes.  Students are able to continue achieving their exams with the RAD in many professional vocational colleges.  Students at MTA have taken exams in all grades and vocational levels up to Advanced 1.

MTA also offers Silver Swans Ballet classes which is aimed at the 55yrs+, launched and licensed by the RAD this is another popular class MTA is thrilled to offer with the support of the City and County of Swansea.

MODERN THEATRE & TAP

MTA teaches the modern and tap syllabus offered by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) at a graded and vocational level.  Students are accepted into Modern and Tap classes from the age of four years and over  with the opportunity to participate in exams from aged five years and over.  Students are able to continue achieving their exams with the ISTD in many professional vocational colleges.  Students at MTA have taken exams in all grades and vocational levels up to Advanced 2.

JAZZ & HIP HOP

MTA teaches non-syllabus classes in both Jazz and Hip Hop.  Jazz is based on Luigi style and technique as well as incorporating American Jazz Funk, Commercial Jazz,  and Musical Theatre training. 

Hip Hop is again based on many different styles originating from America such as Locking & Popping, Whacking & Voguing (old and new style), House and Boogaloo, as well as incorporating tricks such as ‘cartwheels’ and ‘freezes’.  Students have opportunity to participate in the ISTD Medal exams for the Hip Hop syllabus. 

Students are recommended to be seven years and over for both these classes and may be asked to perform at different events within some of these classes.

DRAMA & SINGING

Both Drama and Singing classes can achieve LAMDA qualifications and are taught by professional and experienced teachers using advanced techniques   These classes are great to improve confidence, performance and expression within dance or ideal for students looking to audition for professional vocational dance and theatre colleges.

ACROBATICS/ACRO DANCE

 MTA offers classes with the Acrobatic Arts Society.  This society has come over from America and has created a syllabus designed for dancers to enhance their flexibility, strength and acrobatic tricks with patron backing from the likes of Cirque de Soleil

CONTEMPORARY *NEW*

MTA is excited to offer you the newest syllabus offered by the ISTD - contemporary! This is from an Intermediate Foundation (Vocational level) up. This class is aimed at aged 11yrs+ and is also open to students with little or no training in dance but catered to teach students true grounding technique of contemporary dance which will help give them a deep knowledge if they wish to train at a vocational level.

Exams can be achieved which will also count towards Ucas points for university

SUMMER SCHOOL & WORKSHOPS

MTA holds a biannual Summer School for two weeks each summer where students get a chance to study Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre taught by professional teachers.  Alongside this students have participated in workshops such as Contemporary, Ballroom and being taught by semi-finalist Bethany Rose from the BBC’s production ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’ who taught dances from the show. Other workshops held by resident 'Fame' Director Albey Brookes who has taught choreography from 'Fame', 'Cats', 'Aladdin' and 'Singing' in the Rain' and Louise Lenihan who has taught 'Starlight Express' choreography.
